Best way to pack ice skates?
When I pack my skates in my checked luggage, I put the guards on, then put the soakers on over the guards (mine are stretchy enough to do this) for extra padding. Then I pack them within my clothing - I surround the skates, on all sides, with clothing, so the clothes act as padding. And that%26#039;s it.
Reply:I would suggest making sure that your skates are dry and putting your hard guards on (make sure to replace the soakers after you get to your destination) I would also suggest getting skate bags for your skates so that they won%26#039;t scratch each other in travel, and I would suggest packing clothes around the skates. Good luck!
Reply:I would probably leave my soakers on, but I would get skate bags for them. Usually skate shops have them near the soakers and you can get them to match your soakers and in all sorts of colors/patterns. They%26#039;re made out of the same materials as soakers, are a great size for skates and usually have a draw string to close them. Each skate goes in it%26#039;s own bag, so they%26#039;re not rubbing on each other causing scratches or on anything else in your bag.

I would call the airline to verify, but if they allow you to, I would pack my skates in my carry-on bag.....or maybe gate-side check them if you can. Security has changed a lot since 09/11/01. As an %26quot;airline brat,%26quot; I traveled enough to not have my bag always follow me when I check it. When I fly, I try to pack so that I don%26#039;t have to check anything.....too many years living with a flight attendant mom! :) In the past, if I traveled with my skates, I took them on the plane with me. We all know how expensive skates are, so if they%26#039;ll let you, maybe keep them as close to you as possible. If your bag doesn%26#039;t make it to your destination at the same time you do, at least your skates will -- which your skates may be worth more than your whole suitcase combined! :)
Reply:My suitcase comes with two straps in it so I Can securely strap them each in. But if you don%26#039;t have that maybe consider purchasing on of these skate bags:

I hope this helps, good luck!!
Reply:i just put my skates in my backpack %26amp; they are fine. they are pretty. i just put the soakers on %26amp; lay them in there. i dont do anything hardcore while im wearing my backpack so they%26#039;ve never got scratched or anything
Reply:That would work.
